Wireless dongle

Sometimes wireless dongles are separated from the PC by a short length of cable.

I have poor signal strength from a wireless dongle so I tried plugging it into a USB extension cable, but then I got nothing at all.

Is there something special about the cable you're supposed to use? How do I order one?

I would imagine that a USB extension cable would reduce the amount of power going to the device, hence why the signal got weaker, but don't quote me on this... I just know as I tried using a USB hard disk and used an extension cable just as you have and the thing would not power up at all...

I think t is on the right line ...
looking at our stock ... the cables are 6" ish ... no longer
just enough to clear the side of the case.

the limit for USB is 3-5 m http://www.usb.org/about/faq/ans5

I also guess that because of the data transfer rates that you couldn't hub the thing ... just a straight cable directly into a standard header.
