it's debateable just how "essential" it is ...
however with a dialup - I assume you won't have all the latest updated installed?
couple of options
have you got a chum with a dsl who will download it for you.
if your local library has a pc available you could use tha
PC world gave SP2 CDs away for nowt - as did many of the PC mags (not seen either yet for sp3)
They have all forgotten your question!!!! SP3 is a substantial
download on dialup it could take all night and the night may not finish until midday, do as they suggest and get somebody to download it for you onto DVD, I would suggest you have a good look first to see if A you need it and B will it be compatible with your PC ? which processor Intel or AMD ?

my thought on sp3 is that if hen has dialup - not many window's updates are suitable for download - that assumes the machine even has sp2 - henrys - do you? ....
sp3 is essentially a collection of all the fixes since sp2 ... so for hen - if he can get it on cd - or via dsl - it's probably worth doing... I agree with you for a fully updated machine - no need (or not much need anyway.

I thought that was what I said?
the bit with the friend ... or library or ....
