Slide (transparency) scanner

I have a lot of photographic slides (transparencies) that I'd like to store electronically. How much should I pay for a scanner for these? How many pixels should I look for? I don't need fantastic quality - it's just holiday pictures and suchlike.

I've looked into this myself and depending on how many you want to transfer, I decided the best way was to have them done professionally. There are scanners in the �150 price range which have this feature, but the feedback I've seen has not been positive.

The professional rate is about 30p per slide adn as I no longer use slides, it seemed more economical to pay this one off charge.

I can vouch for the Epson 3490, I have had one for about 2 years. Great photo scanner, and there is a special frame that fits into the lid, that takes your slides etc. I do believe you can also buy the next model up. This auto feeds your slides etc.

The Zennox negative 7 film scanner seems very compact, I have no experience of this one, but it looks a nice bit of equipment to have.

Carrying on from the last post, I have used one of these 'professional' scanners with an insert but the results have not been brill.
I don't know if this is because the scanner accentuates the imperfections of the original slide - it's just that it can sometimes work out easier to re-photograph the original if you can.

One, these are not professional scanners, and secondly the Epson I have, gives great results.

Since cpedw stated that they are only holiday snaps, I think re-photographing them is a little over the top, and the end results cannot compare with scanning them, and if need be fixing them in a photo suite .

Unless of course one is a professional photographer with hundreds of pounds of equiptment, and willing to take the trouble and time that is involved.
