IE window behaving strangely

my IE6 window has suddenly started behaving strangely. When I maximise it, it sits a bit low on the screen - i.e. there's a thin strip at the top of the screen which the window doesn't cover, and the bar at the bottom which shows download progress, the padlock indicating SSL etc is obscured behind the Windows taskbar. I can't drag the window upwards, because obviously the computer thinks it's maximised. I'm sure this has only just started happening. Any ideas?

Are you sure you haven`t altered the display settings on your monitor, does this only happen with your browser or any programme. If the latter then you need to re-adjust your display using the monitor controls.
