I have been transfering VCR tapes to DVD-RW`s and have run out of DVD`s, but have some CD-R`s. Is it possible to use them instead of DVD-RW`s? TIA

Hi,

It is possible to burn video tracks to a cd-r but it will depend on what format you are using and what software.

If you are using something like nero you will need to convert your track into something like an AVI format. You will also lose quality as you only have 700mb on a cd.
Lastly you will have to make sure your dvd player will support the format you chose.

I thought files could be deleted off a CD-RW?

Isnt there a risk you could accidently delete something off a DVD/RW?

If you use DVD-R then the data can never be deleted.

I'm slightly out of my depth here - I don't do this sort of stuff often

but you can't just bung a dvd onto a cd
firstly .... it won't fit
secondly you need the film to be in a format your DVD player can see

If you are already doing this to your satisfaction - look in the software and see if it can create VCD (video CD!!)

a much easier way is .... sit down and watch some telly tonight .... nip to tesco, maplins or (god forbid) pc world and buy some more DVDs

If it is stuff that you want to keep permanently you shouldn't be storing it on rewritable DVDs, or CD-RWs for that matter.
The 'write-once' discs only have one single layer of emulsion and are a lot better at keeping the data sound for a long time.
