Enlarging a printed item

I have recently bought a new printer. Before I was able to enlarge a 3"x3" puzzle to approx twice its size on the old printer. Now I don't seem able to do this as its either too big or cropped. Is there an alternative such as scanning in the puzzle, adjusting its size, and then printing out the enlargement. Adobe seems to allow this but not the printing out unless you have a paid for version. Is there anything in XP to do this?
