system restore

i have xp pro but have a problem with it turning itself off before it gets started. my system restore was not working so i tried turning it off (as someone suggested) in safe mode. but in safe mode you cant turn it back on. any suggestions would be helpful

first thing is ... you don't need to be in safe mode
just turn SR off - reboot - turn on - reboot - try it.

second - how much free diskspace do you have?

third .... why do you need SR?

could not get into normal mode so i tried to do it in safe mode but i cant turn sr back on. trying to restore to an earlier time when my comp worked properly

if it's not there - you aren't going to get there by the sound of it.

what's stopping ordinary mode - any error messages .... what's happening?

no just tries to load for about 30 seconds then switches off and repeats the same sequence
