ME to XP

I am about to change my system from ME to XP. I think I am going to have to reload all my software is this staright forward or is it a bit of a pain.

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.If you still have all the CDs from your existing software, then re-installing it all shouldn't be a pain (albeit time consuming)
If you were going to pretty much wipe your hard drive and start again (probably a good way about it) you may lose all your documents / pictures etc, so it's probably worth making a backup of these on CDR if you can.
Congratulations on the upgrade, XP may not be seamless but it's a lot smoother than ME.
Hi, you have nothing to lose by installing XP over ME. Most programmes will probably work OK and any that don't you can go to start/programs/accessories/system tools/program compatability wizard to run programs that weren't designed for XP but ran OK in ME. Failing that you can always reinstall the programmes that won't work.
If it all fails you can wipe the drive and install XP after.
