I'm moving into a student house soon and we're currently looking at the best options for wireless internet. With a few we've looked at, they offer a 2MB connection speed. I was just wondering if anyone could give me any idea of whether this would be any good? There'll be four of us living in the house using the internet and then i suspect friends may be round now and again using their laptops, so there could be five or six of us on the internet at once.
Will 2MB be enough?? What do we need?? Does anyone know any really good deals for the internet??
Thanks a lot!

What provision is in the house already? Who supplies the telephone line?

There's no internet in the house at all at the moment. The telephone line rental will be from BT but we've been looking at getting a package from Sky for the internet?
why not have the full package from sky, phone line rental, sky and broadband much cheaper than bt
Question Author
Can you get phone line rental from sky? On the website it says "BT Line Rental remains payable"
yes you can, its 10. i think it means that unless you go with sky phone rental bt is still payable, if that makes sense
Although the package states 2mb it does not mean you will be able to achieve that speed. It depends how far you are from the exchange unless you use cable such as virgin media. You should ring up BT and ask what speed they think you would get if you took out their packages. The BT broadband is very reliable although slightly more expensive and if there is a fault it is repaired quickly unlike some other companies. (I work for BT so I am biased although I have read the same on many forums!)
You'd have to make sure the landlord agreed to a sky dish being installed before you ordered anything.

up to 2mb and sky dont charge you, i am with sky for the complete package and im satisfied with them, i used to be with bt for found them very expensive and the customer service was abysmal, but sky are quite good.
when my phone line needed reparing i had to wait 5 days until an engineer called!
that was with bt i hasten to add
http://www.broadbandchecker.co.uk/terms.php. This is a good site and will help you make up your mind. You also need to consider how much download allowance you will get! With four of you using the service you could be better doing an unlimited dowload allowance especially if you are streaming music or video.
