I recently downloaded a music album torrent consisting of some eighteen songs in mp3 format onto my HDD.. When I added the songs into Nero to burn them, they came in at under the 700 Mb disc size according to the display in Nero.
However, when I tried to burn the disc, a warning message came up stating that the available space on the disc was 703 Mb and Nero would need 705 Mb of space to burn all the album. The program offered to try overburning the disc but warned that this could lead to incomplete tracks and/or damage to the burner. I cancelled the task as a precaution.
Now for the questions: How come Nero stated that 703Mb was available on the disc when it was a standard 700Mb one? Would overburning really have caused damage to the burner? Are there discs available larger than 700Mb for jobs like this? Finally, Nero had the option to remove the gaps between tracks to reduce the total album size. Doing this make much difference to the quality of the CD?
