How can I find out the name of a company who called me today bit did not leave their name and the number they left just keeps ringing out (maybe I wrote it down wrong)

try typing the number in google and see what you get

Though if you have writen it down wrong then obviously that won't work either :)

they'll only be trying to sell you something.

There are mobile phone scammers who text you with a number
you ring the number ... the other end answers ... and plays you a recording of ring tone .... so you wait .... and wait

not bad on premium rate
