AVG vers.8.0.169 Auto updates.

When I open the AVG window it tells me that the updater is not running.
It states, UPDATEMGR_short_state_text_check_failed
If I then update manually I'm told PC restart is needed
When PC restarts I'm back to square one, with the AVG icon on the task bar showing an exclamation mark and the update manager not running. Until a few weeks ago this problem didn't exist. Help please.

I do manage to get rid of the exclamation mark by right clicking on it and clicking update now. But of course when I close down and then reboot to start another session on the PC, off we go again. Don't you just love the headaches computers can give you ?

AVG8 can be a bit temperamental. If you are using a 3rd party Firewall product (eg ZoneAlarm), the AVG8 components need to be included in the 'exceptions' list. (See link http://free.avg.com/ww.faq.num-1334 )
If this isn't the issue, you may not have the latest vsn of avgupd.exe. I would then recommend a complete Uninstall, and re-downloading/installing from AVG's website.

Hi 19540, daffy654, sputnik, & Billy Sugger,
Thanks for all your suggestions, I shall certainly try them all, but not tonight, as I'm off to my bed, long day tomorrow, packing to go on two weeks holiday in the Med. My pesky computer can do without me until I get back. Until then thanks again you guys, kind of you to take the trouble.,
