I have been looking around for a new computer and was particularly interested in finding a HP desktop as I have had them in the past and they have seemed good. It seems though that all their systems are run on AMD Athlon and not Intel Core. I have seen a Packard Bell that looks very good with a Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600, 2GB Memory and Graphics of 248MB. Are Packard Bell any good. as I know little about them. Thanks.
The only reason I am so keen on an intel processor is because everyone says they are the best. If AMD Athlon are okay, then I shall definitely buy another HP. You seem to think that this type of processor is okay rojash so will get another HP. Need the desktop for online card games more than anything else, play several hours each day, so is it the graphics card that is important as well. Thanks
Most real world users wouldn't use the full power of a modern processor anyhow so it's highly unlikely you would be able to notice a difference between an AMD and Intel offering of about the same clock speed.
If you do anything that requires serious number crunching you may notice a slight difference, but even that's unlikely.
Right people, thanks for your help, sounds as though I will be okay either way. Final question is, I am wireless based and have my broadband though BT. I am thinking of getting the new BT Home Hub which has 802.11n & 11n wireless networking, whatever that is (BT are offering new deals if you sign up again). The HP desktop I am considering buying has 802.11g/b wireless networking will this be compatible. Many thanks for all your help, always appreciated.
It would be compatible, but why on earth would you want to use wireless for a desktop?
Don't do it wired is far faster, more secure and more stable... just connect the desktop using a network cable. it not like your going to be moving a desktop so no need for wireless.
Thanks CF, I am actually wireless at the moment, as I have my laptop upstairs on a desk and the router downstairs. I will bear this in mind when I get the new desktop and if I have problems with the wireless connection will move it downstairs. Thanks for all your help and advice, hopefully it will all run smoothly.
