Transfering stuff from laptop to an external hard drive

Can i put the contents of my program files onto an external hardrive? I just want to free up space,will this make my laptop run faster?
I have already moved about 30gig of photos and vids.Will this make thing run faster if i dont have loads of stuff stored directly onto my laptop?

really not advisable to install programs onto a external hard drive and you can't move your program files

errrr.. if you've moved 30gb of photos and vids then you must have at least 30gb of free hard drive space... no need to worry about hard drive space.

idefragment your drive, and then run ccleaner

totally agree with prev ans,u can transfer prog files but moving program DLL,S can be a prob because they cant be moved or copied,as DLL,s should never be moved as windows needs them 2 reboot,as for c cleaner superb program

Unless you have a very small hard drive that is/was over 80% full, no, this won't make any difference to to the computer's working speed. What slows it down is the number of active applications working at once.
