I have a JVC digital video camera (GRD20ek) - mini DV type. I am having great trouble transferring film to my pc. I have a Firewire port, but when I plug the cable in, nothing is even recognised. From looking around this site, it seems I might be missing a video card(?). Does anyone have any ideas? Thanks

I doubt you're missing a video card as you wouldn't be able to read this reply. Your firewire port is perfect for transferring the video from your camera to the PC. I think the only thing you're missing is the software to do so. Have a search on the net for capturing DV film. Adobe Premiere is a popular one, but expensive, I don't think you'll find anything for free.
Windows movie maker on XP should possibly do it
