My PC hard disk is 94% full. I have the option of compressing the hard disk to save space. Could anyone advise me on the pros and cons of doing this as I really do need the space.

pros.... it might create a little more space on you drive.

Cons it really really slows things down and make data loss much more likely.

I personally wouldn't do it, look at ways to remove stuff that you dont use.
External hard drives are so affordable nowadays.
Keep the stuff you hardly ever use somewhere else.
Try to remove unwanted large files from the drive, like movies and videos.

Make sure your hard drive has not got a second partition, like a D:, that you are not aware of and is sitting there empty.

As has ben said, buy an external hard drive that plugs into the USB port, they are fairly cheap and can be HUGE nowdays.
