To meile or not

Had loads of anecdotal advice about washing machines in Home & Garden. There seem to be loads of people who swear by Meile. What makes them so good or so expensive? Is it a different type of motor? Is it something like my Magimix having an induction motor & cheap processors being belt drven?..........I'm curious but keep it simple if poss pls!

I've got to say I'd never heard of them ... and our's died last year after 12 years sterling service - soft water area (bendix not melee) - we used to call it the USS Enterprise (it was very good against Klingons!)
at �250 it was a bargain - mind you it 's not much good as a freezer - I tried.
as with all gadgetry (ladies toys! ;-)- if it gives you pleasure - and you can afford it .... (I'm sure that French ans saunders put a slightly diggerent "spin" on the meaning of that phrase quite some years ago (snigger)

They are simply better made and better engineered than the budget machines.
The quality of every single part on them is noticeably higher then the ones in hotpoints and the like, and hey do generally outlast the cheaper brands by about double and normally with very few problems.
The normal age of machines that I used to get called out to repair was about 4-5 years for the cheaper machines, but with the few meile (and AEG and bosch) machines I got called to it was about 8 years old at least. In both instances the main early faults are either pumps or door rubbers,
However if something does go wrong you will be paying about twice as much for the parts (hopefully not the labour though, but I knew some engineers that charged more labour on the basis you have a meile, you can afford it!)
If you can afford to but the meile, and especially if your a fairly heavy user then go for the meile.

Everything about a Miele washing machine as with every other appliance they make, oozes quality and it is clearly seen. They are the only brand left that sot of makes their own products and still produce every single product in Germany, unlike other brands moving production to China or Poland.
Expensive? Maybe, but they are an investment, and can actually be called a washing machine rather than a tin can.
And in answer to your motor question, the Miele motors are DC rather than AC so they are much quieter. Bosch are very near the quality of Miele.
When Which do reports on "white goods" then Miele and Bosch always come out on top.
I have a Bosch washing machine, dishwasher, and freezer and they have given me trouble free use for years.
You pay a bit more up front, but they last so much longer than the cheap rubbish produced by other companies.

I had some experience with a Meile washer that had problems on a remote area power system. We traced the problem to a circuit design that hit the power supply with a 3000 Watt load while the spin cycle was being braked.
While it does not cause a problem to the mains power it overloaded the inverter on the home power system. It was just a case of poor circuit design that was well below the standard I would expect from such an expensive washer.
We have the top of the range Fisher & Paykel. It is fabulous. It has nice features like "buttons" whith no moving parts that simply sense the presence of your finger.
