sony camcorder

im looking to buy the sony dcr-hc53 camcorder from asda,i cant find any information on what kind of memory card it needs,if it needs one at all?and are the dv tapes all one size?im not great on technology so any help greatly recieved!thanks

I think this model number is unique to Asda, as I can find no mention of it in either current or discontinued models on the Sony site.

It seems similar to the HC51E, which does not have a still image recording function so does not need a memory card.

DV tapes come in two sizes: 8mm and mini. This camera uses mini DV. The 8mm ones were really only introduced to provide backward compatibility with Video 8 tapes.

does it have a built in memory or will it just tape and then you delete after copying?ive also found a similar one,samsung upd381,which seems more popular,what do you think?thanks for your help!

It tapes - you can either delete after copying, or use another tape!

The Samsung spec is very similar to that of the Sony. Neither use memory cards, and neither take still pictures. Keeping in mind the deterioration in quality from Sony over the past few years, I'd probably go for the Samsung
