my monitor will not switch on even though my computer works

my monitor does not work, even though my computer works. the only thing on my screen is 'power saving mode. there was a power cut yesterday, but the pc, monitor were all off at the time. albeit plugged into the mains, but not switched on. have tried another monitor, but it displays the same message. any ideas?....

Have you tried jiggling the mouse, pressed the Esc key or the space bar?
