You can obviously use the US camcorder in Europe, but its playing the video back that causes the problems. In the UK for example videos are PAL standard and in the US they are NTSC - so you have to have the actual video tape adapted - unless your camcorder is both PAl and NTSC compatible - if it is you have no worries.

As a ps to the excellent answer from jammyjoe, you can buy an NTSC to PAL adaptor for playback on UK PAL tvs from Maplin for around �40.
