Googlemail?

It is free, and can be viewed in a web browser so he can look at his mail anywhere in the world using a web browser.

His address will be something like [email protected]

Do it here

I agree - I love gmail (googlemail).

It has the best spam filters available, in my opinion.
Gmail filters spam out, puts it in a separate folder and links to recipes for cooking spam (really). But I still get a dozen a day. I get almost none on hotmail, so I suspect their filtering is even better.

errm, Ethel, surely a system that scans your e-mails and provides targeted ads according to the content, is one that turns every e-mail into spam?
I don't see the ads, Roj, and I get probably 3 spam emails a month, if that.

I use the mail fetcher so I read all of my email addresses in it, such as blueyonder and have no complaints with it.
jno: no, Hotmail's spam systems are known to be some of the worst in the business.

You must be lucky :)

(Or simply have used your gmail address in more places than your hotmail...)
not really, fo3nix: I used to get lots of spam via hotmail (20-30 a day) but then it stopped and hasn't resumed. I drew the obvious conclusion, that they'd improved their filtering. I didn't change my address, so how else to explain it?
Hotmail is notorious for losing mail or having server problems. It also can't be accessed through Outlook Express. (Support for Outlook Express has been withdrawn. You now have to use Windows Live Mail).

GMail has a lot of fans but it electronically scans all of your mail, in order to send you related (?) advertising.

Gawab allows you to access your mail through a client (such as Outlook Express or Windows Mail) or via web access. If you set it up properly, you'll never see an ad.
Full instructions are in paragraphs 3, et seq, of my post here:
