Dell Monitor possibly faulty?

The monitor to my Dell Desktop has started playing silly wotsits!!
When I turn the screen on the picture rolls (only way to describe it) and then screen goes blank.
If I unplug the monitor and leave it a while it will then work.
Does this mean that I am going to have to buy a new monitor soon?
Oh, if needed I am running XP and computer is not left on all the time.
