Overwrite in MS Word

Does anybody ever purposefully use overwrite in Word? (the one where you press Insert and you type over previously written work). It seems people only ever do it by accident and don't realise until they've wiped out a few sentences. I was just wondering because I can't think of a single reason why anyone would want to on purpose. So what's it for?

Couldn't agree more. I do it all the time because they put it next to my delete key which I tend to use a lot.

I thought I was the only one missing out on its fanstastic hidden qualities. There must be someone who can tell us why it's there?

It's a left over legacy from the days of dos.
If it's removed from the keyboard, they'd have to think up some other useless operation to replace it.
