Opening word documents

My computer has suddenly started refusing to open my Word documents when I double click on the icon, it tries to open them in PAINT. No problem if I right-click and "open". How do I re-set ?

Are you running XP? When you right click on the file, can you select "Open With"? If you can, select "Choose Program...", find Microsoft Word and before clicking OK, check the box that says "Always use the selected program to open this kind of file".
