Why dont microsoft copy protect their discs? all games are protected but ms dont seem to do it...

I think the registration of new Microsoft products is supposed to curb piracy.
Going back to when apple ruled the world and the pc was playing catchup....it was dead easy to copy the software for the PC (windows) and so people opted to buy PCs coz their mates would lend/copy the software and all u had to do was buy a pc and start sharing the software....NOW with MS again playing catch up with its game consol it makes economic sense IMHO to increase the number of people who will buy the machine cos they can copy the software from mates .....It worked for the pc so why not for the game console.....
