Printer problem

My friend's brand new and newly installed printer will not print from Word or Notepad in black ink, the paper just comes straight through. However, it will print pictures in colour. Any ideas, pse?

When the new ink cartridges were fitted were the strips that go across the chip removed? I know I forgot to do that once and after a couple of hours of trying to figure out what was wrong I realised I had left the strip on the black ink cartridge.lol

Highlight print and choose color from palette.....try dark blue then black......what happens?

Well, daffy654, the strip has been removed from the black ink cartridge, so it's not that. tamborine, the text will print when dark blue and also dark grey and any other colour, but when you go back to black - nothing. Does that clarify the situation at all, pse?
