How do I remove a program from my PC?

I recently bought a new Kaspersky internet security disc for my laptop because my AVG security ran out. I loaded it in and it prompted me to remove the AVG due to incompatibility. No problem, I uninstalled this on the Remove/uninstall page. It no longer exists on this screen or even as a shortcut, but when I try to load the Kaspersky disc it tells me AVG is still present and cannot proceed!
Anyone have any ideas?

click start, my computer, local disc (C:), program files, find the AVG folder and delete it.

that should work

Thanks very much.
Will try this when I get home.
DON'T "just delete" the folder - with virus software it's lokely to cause more problems (what's left of AVG could see it as a virus)

use the removal tool
http://www.avg.com/download-tools

then if there is anything left you can delete the folder safely

Thanks, AC. I tried DanAB's method but it still doesn't work so I will try your link and hope for the best. Thanks for the advice.
