I tried to re-format my hard drive on my XP Laptop. I found after installation. Only half of my drive was showing. I am told I should have deleted the partition. On re-trying this, the system will not allow me to delete the partition. I am at a loss on what to do.

you can only delete the partition if you have booted from the windows CD, you can't do it from within windows!

but if you do delete the partition it will wipe everything off your hard drive and you will have to reinstall everything again (and you'll loose all personal data too)

That is what I was trying to do. Re-boot from a CD. This told me about setup files. I have already backed everything up.
Boot from the cd. set up windows now, d to delete the partition, L to delete partition, Quick format, setup windows on the selected partition.
