There is a large sat.dish in the flats where I live(46 flats) serving all flats. I have told this dish equipment has to be balanced each year and the equipment will then last a lot longer. Is this a sales ploy or advisable to have done?

I live in a Block of Flats with a Communal Dish serving 25 residences. Our Local Council paid for the installation of the Dish and providing yours is securely mounted there is no need to touch it. How long has your Dish been in place and who is responsible for any maintainance?
Have you got 2 Satellite outlets coming from the TV wall socket which you will need for Sky+?
If the condition of the whole installation is good then it should be left alone-if it aint broke don't fix it !!

My motto exactly!! I am responsable for maintainance and the man who put the dish up about 5 years ago is now contacting me about balancing the equipment. every year. If everything thing works - Why?
cobblars......sat dishes dont need servicing. Re-aligning maybe if contact fittings to building are loose - just a screw-driver job.
It might need cleaning to keep optimum signal levels, but thats about it!
