According to the itunes screenshot, when you open itunes there are 3 buttons red, yellow & green, top left, above the play, forward and reverse buttons.
When I open itunes these coloured buttons are not there, what am I doing wrong?

These are window controls for the apple operating systems.
Red closes the window, yellow minimises the window onto the dock, green maximises the window.
If you're running on a pc then you won't have these. they will be replaced by the standard controls for Windows, which are on the top right I think.
Yea Milvus is on the money.

iTunes is made by Apple, and since they have their own operating system to promote (Mac OS X), usually use screenshots of iTunes under Mac OS X.

On Mac OS X, the close button (that's usually an 'x' in Windows) is on the other side of the window (left), and a red button. The yellow button is minimise, and the green maximise.

Since you're using Windows, you'll get the usual close, minimise and maximise buttons, on the right hand side.
