Mould on a video

I have discovered mould on a video that cannot be replaced. Is there anything that can be done or is it lost forever?

you should always eat them by the use-by date

you might be able to clean it with isopropyl alchohol
(from chemist)
try a small area first - if ok do the rest

the bad news is ... you'll have to manually wind the tape
(there is a latch which locks the tape ... don't force it)

Don't quite understand the eating before sell by date bit to your answer...!

However, an advert appeared by my question from a company who clean mouldy videos, so I' m going to try them.

Definitely common in our house! I had all my old videos in a cupboard build into the wall and when I went to clear them out, about 10 had mould. Didn't notice it at first and tried to play one of them - and ruined my old video recorder! I could replace all the others, but this tape is made up from old cine film from the 30s, 40s and 50s so it is irreplacaable. The firm who cleans up the videos does a dvd for you as well so I'm well chuffed.
