Excel Protection allow Text cells to be edited!

I have a spreadsheet and I protect elements of it. When I do this though, the cells which are 'allowed for editing' and formatted as 'text' cells will allow users to input text once BUT the problem is if they want to go back to the cell to amend the text, it wipes it all!

It does not happen when the document is not protected, but I need the document protecting (as other cells have formula in and they need to be kept safe and un-edited).
