Weird scary problem

Picture the scene , i'm out home on my laptop on here , listening to music on itunes , I plug my ipod shuffle in to change the tracks for going out & the laptop makes a horrendous noise which actually comes through the speakers & the screen goes black . I turn it of in panic , turn it back on & everything appears fine .

This is the 2nd time it's happened . I've looked in alerts & logs & can see nothing obvious although I'm not sure what I'm looking for .

I have backups thankfully

Any ideas?
