Another rant about BT
6 Answers
After 2 days of speaking to dozens of people at BT I've finally given up . I have 10GB download limit which is OK for me .I use a download monitor but It's giving me strange readings . I called BT thinking they could tell me my usage but they tell me "BT do not have the facility to do that" . If I were to go over my limits at the end of the month I get a letter so obviously they can access them . Surely they should be able to tell me ?

To manually monitor each account would not be cost-effective in BT's terms - remember they are in the business of selling you net time, not advising you that you are using too much.
It's simple business practice for a world-wide net provider.

According to BT's TOC's you can go over for one month without incurring a charge anyhow, if you go over for two consucutive months then they will charge you 1 for each extra GB.
f you exceed your monthly usage allowance your service won't stop working; advisory emails will be sent to your BT primary email address if you reach 80 per cent of your usage allowance each month and further notification if you then exceed your allowance in a particular month. If you exceed your usage allowance for two months in a row, we'll charge you 1 for each extra GB you use (rounded up to the nearest GB) starting from the second month you exceed your allowance. We'll continue charging if you keep exceeding your allowance in the following months. These charges will appear on your BT bill.

Chuck I'm certainly using more than 80% of my limit a month & not heard from them .
I've been using this http://www.broadbandchoices.co.uk/broadband-do wnload-monitor.html
would you recommend a different one ? Don't want to give them a penny more than necessary
