It might be that you have to be logged on to your computer as an administor to install it.  Do you have multiple user accounts?

i have diff accounts but always use my own which is the main one.
If you have upgraded to win xp sp2 recently, you will need to turn the windows firewall off temporarily to allow you to download media player 10, once you have got it then turn it back on.

How do i do that?
Dont turn the fire wall off! Either your running a pirate version, of you havnt activated XP. The firewall is NOTHING to do with it.

I did say temporarily on turning off the firewall, I appreciate that it is there for your protection, but 5 mins while you download mediaplayer 10 is not going to cause your pc to magically catch a virus.

I found on downloadin sp2 that this was ecatctly the problem I had and turning it off was the only way to upgrade to media player 10.

If you want to turn it off temporarily, you can find the setting in control planel - windows firewall,

Like the rather paranoid user above has said though, it is a good idea to keep it on usually though.

Yes I wouldnt mind switching it off for 5...any way, went back onto the downloading site and for some reason my auto updates wasnt updating so it took ages to update my computer...and then funnily enough it installed it perfectly...!  Thanks for you help, it was only cos you mention sp2 that i thought about going online to microsoft and it hadnt updated to sp2 ... All sorted and I am a happy bunny! x
If you can't download it automatically, try a manual download and install, Download it from the Microsoft website.. www.microsoft.com
