I'm trying to use a guide on creating a shiny sphere but its not working...

The guide says,,

Step 1: Create a blank 200px by 200px document and fill the background with anything you like (white may be best at first). Create a new transparent layer on top and, using the Elliptical Marquee Tool, draw a circle whilst holding down the shift key (this will give you a classic circle with equal proportions). Now make sure you have the top layer active and choose Edit > Fill from the menu. Fill the circle with 50% grey. You can now deselect if you want.

However, after following the instructions careful, when I go to Edit > Fill, the Fill is greyed out and I can't click on it :( ... I've made sure I've got the correct layer selected !

Any ideas ?

Thanks

I've been trying to re-create your problem, which has been difficult because the instructions work fine for me!

If you've definitely got the correct layer selected, the only reason that 'fill' should be greyed out is because Photoshop doesn't recognise that there's actually anything to fill.

The only way I could get a 'non-fillable' circle on the screen was if I selected the wrong tool. Are you sure that you've selected the Elliptical Marquee Tool, and not the Ellipse Tool? The circle you produce should have a 'shimmering' edge, to show that it's selected. (If you select the Ellipse Tool you get a circle which is both non-shimmering and non-fillable).

haha... bloody hell you're smart... You're spot on... the version of Photoshop on the Adobe website looks different and I'd not picked up on the difference as the word is similar!!!

Many thanks... I was getting so frustrated ! I can have a play and go to bed happy now !

Mikie !
