I got into IT by starting out doing night shifts as an operator (dropped out of Uni after 3 months, got an A Level in Computing before that though).  Taught me a lot about how an organisation use IT and the processes involved.  Also put myself through a couple of night classes in C programming.  I moved from night shifts to telephone support for 6 months (the worst job I've ever had) then went contracting at W H Smith's doing software testing.  That was a good eye opener of the project life cycle.  Hope this helps.
I do btec first diploma at college in ict. U only need 4 Ds and above and its not an easy course, but like i said the grades arent that high and u do web site development , binary, software and hardware, pretty much everything,or u could go to the entry level ict course where the entry requirments like  5 Es +, or u could go to the highest course which i missed out on this yr by a few grades, btec national is equlivent to  3 a levels, u need a C in maths and english, and a few more C's, so like 4 C's, but if u want to just get started try the intro to computer systems, or the higher one first diploma, or the highest equilevent to 3 a levels btec national, hope i helped. later
