The new Apple iPhone 3G is being launched in the US tomorrow it sells at $99. Checking at today's rate of exchange it works out at roughly 67. In the apple store UK if I've done my sums right, the price is 347. My question is if I buy this phone in the states will I be able to use it in the UK?

As far as I know, this price applies only to AT&T subscribers. In the Apple website, look at the notices. They have superscripts and details are in the footer.
The 99$ price if for the phone on a contract. The price in the Apple Store is the PAYG price.

On contract from O2, it varies from free to 97 quid depending on the chosen tariff.

I was gonna get an iPhone until i saw the reviews of the HTC Diamond2, makes the iPhone lokk like a piece of crud
Do you mean the iPhone 3G S? I'm going to buy one, where can I got the protector case?
I bought one case for iPhone 1st generation from http://www.uxsight.com, but I'm not sure if they have the new style case or not.
You're getting confused between the 3G and 3G S.

The 3G S is the new one.

O2 will be selling the 3G for 99 on contract, as AT&T sell it for $99 on contract.

Stick to O2 if you intend to use it in this country, you'll have fewer headaches.
