Most of these TVs (that only showed 768 lines) were not "proper" HD anyway, you need 1080 lines to see "proper" HD.
If your TV is only 768 lines then you will never see full HD on it anyway (see the documentation to see if it is 768 lines).

The easiest / cheapest way to see HD is to get a Freesat box.
Freesat is an offering from BBC/ITV but you do need to fit a dish to your wall and buy a Freesat box.
If you have an existing Sky dish you can use that and then you only need to buy the box.
There is no monthly charge.
(Note some Freesat boxes are NOT HD so make sure you buy one that IS HD).
(Note also that Sky have an offering call Freesat, a different thing altogether, but that dones not show HD)

Or of course you could also get a Blu Ray player - that is proper HD - 1080p as opposed to 1080i which you will get via SKY / Freesat.
Well worth watching a Blu Ray on a 1080p (Full HD) TV.
A few weeks ago I watched Casino Royale on Blu Ray and compared it to the DVD version - the difference - the detail and clarity was amazing
