talking books on dvd

I want to start listening to talking books on an mp3 player. I have seen lots of DVD discs holding various books on mp3. for sale. is it easy to transfer the stories from dvd to my lap top computer and then on to an mp3 player? also if i only need one dvds worth of stories on the mp3 at a time, how big an mp3 player would i need?

It should be relatively easy to rip these to your lap top and then on to an mp3 player,provided you know what you're doing. As for which mp3 player...well the higher the capacity the better...it's a matter of choice.
standard sound is recorded at about 1Mb/Minute
so a standard book takes about 10-14 hours to read outloud which means you'd need an 8Gb player for a single book
however - by recoding the tracks as mono at 40bps
you can get a book down to roughly under 200mb (I can normally get 3 books on my 512Mb player)
