Desktop Icons

I've worked out how to change my desktop icons into pictures from my camera or found on the net. However -links to other websites (like YouTube which I changed to the iphone image for that site) switch themselves back to the website's default symbol when I click them. I've been to display to 'lock' the desktop but that didn't work. Anyone know how I keep the icons I want as default? Thanks
