Always thought why did apple go with Tom Tom, they must have the technology to be able to bring out there own sat nav.
At the end of the day its about making money, so they should really bring out there own apple version of sat nav, to maximise there profit.

'Augmented reality' is going to be the next big thing.

But that is not an Apple app, it is by a third party developer, as are nearly all the apps for the iPhone. The Apple app store get a percentage of every app that is sold. So they will accepted competing SatNav products and let the consumer decide which is best.
