Is it a powered bass speaker?
If so, are both the amplifier and the bass speaker earthed?
If so, try disconnecting the earth from the bass speaker.
If all 5 of your other Speakers are connected to back of your DVD Rec/Player and your Subwoofer (Bass) is connected to a separate amplifier, then that is where your problem lies.
Why not connect Subwoofer to back of DVD Home Theatre System along with other Speakers as should be the case.
That is the the way mine is and everything is fine! More Volume than I will ever need.
Correct positioning of all Speakers is also important.
Poor cabling and external interference can all cause Speaker Hum.

I have a Power amplifier that takes DVD, Sky ,CD player, all the speakers run through that ,The Bass speaker is powered and is connected to the same amplifier via a Jack socket .
Further to my Post yesterday: To pinpoint which piece of equipment is causing humming in your SubWoofer, disconnect each 'box' in turn from Amp unit i.e Sky Box first followed by DVD then CD Player etc. Discounting that Bass Speaker might be faulty, the humming should stop at some point when each piece of equipment is disconnected in turn from Amp unit. Also, when not in use, each piece of equipment should be switched off rather than kept on continual stand-by as there could be a conflict between the units.
