I bought a computer with Windows 95 on it that I want to convert to Windows 98. This computer was designed for Windows 98 and other newer operating systems. I have a Windows 98 restore disk on c.d., but on the desktop my Windows 95 "My Computer" does not have a icon for the c.d (It has a c.d. player). Consequently, I have not been able to run the restore disk.

Any suggestions?

If you know someone who is already running Win 98 you can ask them to make you a Win 98 startup disk with CD Rom support.

Does the CD ROM drive work with other disks (audio or data)? Assuming it does not, it may have a problem which prevents Windows recognising it.

Have you checked to see if it exists?

Go to My Computer > Control Panel > System and under the tab Device Manager check that there is an entry: "CD ROM". If not, you need to re-install its software. If you know the make and model of the CD drive you may be able to download the required software from the manufacturer's web site.
