How come DVDs won't play using Realplayer, but they will using Windows Media Player?

I need to edit home movies I have on DVD but need a ripper program. Any ideas of a good one that is straightforward to use?

My guess is that you haven't got the right codec in REAL Player for your type of DVD and the M/S Media Player has.
Google for codecs and download a suitable "Pack".
I had this trouble but mine would play in REAL player but not in the Media Player until I downloaded the XP- Codecs.
