after you pay your �5.99 a month, are there any ISPs that will offer you the service for free, because all the ISPs BT gives links to charge an extra �6 on top of BTs charge.

No, not anymore. A few used to be free when 'surftogether' first started but they are all starting to charge now. It works out cheaper to use an 'anytime' all day package separate from you phone bill. (E.g Freeserve �12.99pm, BT �14.99 pm). Hope that helps.
