My mate often uses the word n00b. Apart from knowing its an insult, i do not know the meaning or usage of the word. Thinking it is often used by comp junkies *friend is one such a techno addict*, which is why i have poisted this in "internet and technology, case you're wondering.

Thanks in advance...

Hi Weaza,

'Noob', refers to a 'Newbie'. i.e Someone who is new and inexperienced in the world of computers and the internet.

But it can easily be applied to a beginner in any discipline. Similar to 'Rookie'.

Just did a search on Dictionary.com;

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=newbie&r=67

And apparantly Newbie derives from 'New boy' at school.

Thanking you! Dictionary definition interesting: "The label `newbie' is sometimes applied as a serious insult to a person who has been around Usenet for a long time but who carefully hides all evidence of having a clue." V. interesting
I realise that a definition has already been posted, but there are lots of definitions for words such as "n00b" , and much more, at http://www.urbandictionary.com/ .

Enjoy!
UrbanDictionary is very interesting, Imagine. 'n00b' is clearly subtly different to 'Newbie'. According to the site 'n00b' refers specifically to people who are inexperienced in on-line gaming circles.

Good website.
