Laptop on Monitor

Does anybody know what i need to do to view my laptop on my TV. I connect to TV but the TV is not picking up a signal, is there something you need to toggle on your laptop ?

Depends on the laptop though,

Look for a button (probably one of the F keys at the top) that has either a little pic of a monitor on it, or says something like lcd/crt on it, hold down the FN key and press the correct other key to turn on the external monitor.
