avast ,mcafee or what ones would fellow abers suggest

hi i have avast on my computer ,my bf mum has mcafee but they took money out her bank before the year was up for her to renew it and is now being refunded ,would like to know how safe avast is as she does her accounts on her computer and not sure if it is secure enough

You have to compare like with like.

The "avast" that is free is mainly anti virus.

McAfee (and Norton etc) tend to do security suites that offer a whole host of other security items (firewall, malware, phishing protection etc etc).

If you remove McAfee Security Suite and replace it with just Avast anti virus you are leaving youeself wide open.

So as well as Avast Anti Virus you need other security tools.

thank you vhg ,that totally never occured to me will let my bf know in the morning ,they have now offered his mum mcafee for 23 pounds because of their fluff up cheers

I've used Avast with a separate Firewall for about 10 years and never had any problems.
Avast have just recently had their 100,000,000th member join which can't be a bad sign!!!
I also believe that Komono do a FREE A/V and Firewall suite which may suit your bf mum.
Google for it.

Thanks wak ,will Google that cheers ,btw im not bothered about it being free ,just she was not happy with macafee taking 64 pound out her bank on month 11 and without her permission ,her old subscription doesn't end till the end of this month :)

Sorry! I must be getting fuddled in my old age. When I said Komono I actually meant Comodo.
Can someone point me to the nearest Care Home, Please?
My online bank suggested Kaspersky & I think it's the best one of them all
