It's about the Audacity prog. again.I'm at the editing stage and I want to reduce the time between recorded tracks.When I click onto the time that I have selected(3 secs)The whole 10 tracks minimise on the screen into what can only be called a "right mess" Why did all of them come together and not the 2 that I selected??Thanks!!

Not sure I really understand. Are you saying that you've recorded a number of tracks (songs) in a single session?
If so, Audacity will treat them all as a single track. The only way then to reduce the time between tracks is to highlight the space and delete it.
Ideally, if you are recording (say) a number of tracks from a cassette, you would record each track in a separate session.

I've recorded one side of a cassette tape (10 songs)Now I want to reduce the time from the end of one track to the next(3secs) Generate>silence> 3secs click on that BUT instead of the gap closing all the 10 tracks bunch up together.When I get that right I can name the individual songs!!Bear with me rojash it's just a matter of using all the "gadgets"on the prog. I don't think you understood my reply. If you recorded 1 side of the cassette in a single go, then as far as Audacity is concerned, that's a single track: it has no way of understanding that it's 10 separate songs. You have three choices:
1: Record each track individually, saving as you go.
2: Chop the track up into 10 separate files afterwards
3: Edit the track by deleting some of the silence in between the songs.

If you are intending to pu it on a CD or MP3 player, then options one and two are the best options (otherwise you have no means of selecting a specific song, except by skipping through the single track you've recorded, looking for the ends!
Option 1 needs no further explanation.

Option 2:
First ensure that you saved a copy.
Zoom in so that you can see the gaps between songs.
Drag the cursor from the first gap to the end, and hit delete - this eill leabe you with only the first song
Export the result as track 1
Load the original
Drag the Cursor from the start of song 1 to the start of song 2, delete it.
Drag the cursor from the end of song 2 to the end of the track, delete it
Export the result as track 2.
Repeat until done.

Option 3.
Set the zoom level so that you can see the gaps between the songs
Drag from the end of song 1 towards the start of song 2 until you have only the required gap (in seconds) remaining
Delete the highlighted section.
Go to the end of song 2, and repeat, deleting any excess gap beteen it and song 3
Repeat for each gap
This will give you the required gaps, and you can now save and/or export the file.
Just remember that using this method, you don't have 10 tracks - you have one track with 9 quiet bits in it!

It'a a while since i used this prog. but I remember now how to do it You highlight the space between the end of the last track and the start of the new one.Generate>silence and set the dwell time you want ie 3 secs and then click on "generate silence".Another problem is there any difference between WAV and WMA,if there is can you convert the 1st to the 2nd?
